Moving to Open from Classic..

Follow

Hi all, I know that moving is never fun, but sometimes it's for the best. I wanted to write up a quick article including some FAQ's on why and how you should move to inkFrog Open.

First, a bit about inkFrog Open and why it's better. inkFrog Open works much differently than inkFrog Classic. And while it's never easy to move, once you use Open for a few weeks you will learn why it's so much better. The more you use it, the better it is. It's not just us that thinks so, we have tens of thousands of sellers that use it.. and it gets rave reviews!

  • Open offers true mobile friendly templates which comply with eBay's new requirements (including Active Content requirements). This includes the 'tabs' which you can create in your templates! Listings on mobile look fantastic. See screenshots below from an actual sellers listings on an iPhone using our template builder!

  • Open has built in threaded eBay messages (view, reply, manage your eBay messages)
  • Open has library attachments. Every listing you create is attached to a library item where you can manage the listings!
  • Create an incredible amount of filters and saved searches so you can quickly find the items you want
  • Store connectors - You can connect all of your inventory from Shopify, Bigcommerce, and now Amazon directly from inside Open. We keep everything synced for you.
  • True 'Forever listing storage' -- every listing you ever create can be kept inside inkFrog open
  • Templates and descriptions are separated out - and any update to a template, will auto update all of your listings magically for you! (just make sure you manage everything through Open or they will get separated).
  • Open has individual profiles for shipping, returns, and payments!  We've done away with those Global Rules and then having to bulk apply them.  If you link your profiles to your listings, one quit edit to a profile updates every listing linked to that profile!

The above are just a few reasons and I can go on and on, but I'd like to keep this article short if possible.

Next, some FAQs on what Open will do and how you can move

How can I move my account to Open?

While we are nearly complete with our Open converter (from classic to open), you can move without the converter fairly easily. Just create a new account for inkFrog open (if you haven't done so in the past) at http://www.inkfrog.com and Open will automatically import all of your live, sold, and unsold listings from eBay (including images).  Then, connect your classic billing to inkFrog Open by going to this URL (after you login to Open first) - https://open.inkfrog.com/settings/account/classic/ - Connecting your billing will allow you to use both Open and Classic without being charged for both. If you've signed up in the past but forgot how to login, just use your email address and reset your password from the inkFrog open login page.

What about billing (Classic and Open)?

We have great news, you can now connect your Classic billing plan with your inkFrog Open account. Just login to inkFrog Open and then visit this URL: https://open.inkfrog.com/settings/account/classic/ (it will require you to login using your classic username/password) -   We will map your classic billing to the closest, higher plan on Open but you will get to keep your lower, Classic price.  For example, if you are paying $9.95/mo on Classic for 100 listings, you will get our equivalent or higher Open plan but for the same price as you already pay. If you currently get 'unlimited' listings in Classic, you will get our highest Open plan (normally $27/mo) for your lower current, Classic price. And, not only that, but you will be able to use inkFrog Open and inkFrog Classic at the same time, with one single subscription.

What about importing my eBay listings?

That is the great news. inkFrog Open will automatically import all of your live, unsold, and sold listings directly from eBay (including your images). So 90% of all of your inkFrog Classic work automatically gets imported for you. The only thing that doesn't import yet is your inkFrog classic library listings.

What about my Classic templates (prebuilt and custom)?

Here is the deal with templates - eBay's new Active Content and mobile requirements are very strict. None of the old templates, and most likely none of your custom templates meet those requirements. Their new rules require templates to be responsive, which means they change automagically based on screen-size and if on a mobile device. Not only must they be responsive, they also have other limitations which eBay has just recently announced.  Most likely, your templates are not truly responsive, and if they are, they most likely have active content or are limited by at least one of their new standards (unless you've head someone build them recently who knew what they were doing).

Our new template builder in inkFrog Open gives you 100%, true mobile friendly and active content approved templates. These comply with eBay's 2017 requirements. We even offer tabs in our templates which are active content approved!  We recommend creating a template using this new template builder and begin to phase out your old templates (including old, classic templates). Applying an inkFrog Open template in bulk to your listings is very easy to do - just go to your inkFrog open library, checkmark your listings and choose the 'bulk actions-->apply template' option. Before you apply a new template however, make sure you strip out your old templates.  This has to be done manually, unfortunately. Note, you can also use custom templates with Open, just make sure your designer/template builder knows what they are doing with eBay's new standards.

We know that changing templates is a major pain - but after it's done it will be worth it. No pain, no gain as the adage goes. Our new template builder is perfect for today's eBay (clean, simple, professional templates which work great).  Also note, once you 'attach' one of our inkFrog Open templates (and you continue using open to manage your listings), it will be very easy in the future to swap out your templates. We separate your templates from your description - so any template change can be done in a few clicks. In fact, if you update one of your templates, we will auto update your listings for you automatically as well.

What about my inkFrog Classic library listings?

We are not yet done with our library importer/converter. We should have this done shortly. You will be able to import those into your existing Open account once the converter is complete.

Laura, thank you for the info about CrazyLister.

I think Greg has abounded ship on this link.

So you create a template there and copied and pasted it in IF Open before you commit to their service?

If you would explain exactly what you did...or did you upgrade your account?

"One caveat: it is free to try, but don't commit yourself by uploading a lot of listings until you're sure you want to use it, because if you decide not to sign up, you get a big red "You need to Upgrade Your Account" banner across each listing you use the template in on eBay. Yeah, I know. Nothings really free these days!"

    Thank you.

    It takes a village.

    Hi, Diane--

You can create a trial account (no credit card needed). Then you pick a template to use (they have a couple dozen mobile-friendly options). In their editor, you can change a few things or strip it down & custom build. It is all drag & drop, so pretty intuitive to learn. Note: make sure all your paragraph boxes have 12 pt padding, or you'll get scrolling boxes here in InkFrog!

You need to integrate your CrazyLister account with InkFrog. See https://crazylister.com/support/articles/how-to-use-crazylister-with-inkfrog/ for instructions. Do that before publishing.

Once you save & preview the template in CrazyLister (recommend preview in both desktop & mobile--you may have to edit the mobile layout, which doesn't change the desktop layout), hit publish. Copy the HTML, and here in IF Open, click on Create New Template, and choose the from scratch option. You will get a screen with a few lines of code. Highlight them, them do a control + V, and the HTML from CrazyLister is copied in. Click the Preview button on the left to see what it looks like. Click save & name it. Then it will be available as a template to choose in your listing screen. So, yes, you can test the CrazyLister templates in a live eBay listing before you sign up (with the caveat!).

I think Greg was just enjoying his weekend. We should hear something today.

BTW everyone, remember to put the View Item Description HTML code in your description section in the IF listing screen. See http://pages.ebay.com/sell/itemdescription/customizeyoursummary.html for that info. Greg, is InkFrog going to code that into your templates soon?

You tell me to login to my classic account then I get this message " This classic account does not have active billing on file." ok then why do you charge me every month. please let me know when this is all working, I don;t have hours to spend trying to figure this out.

  • Avatar
    Greg

@Michael - I checked your account and I do not see that you have a subscription (auto pay) on file. The auto pay is required to connect billing. If you go to the 'Account' link in Classic and then the "payment & plans" section and input a CC or paypal on file, you can then use that URL. It will not work if you just have a credit balance on file.

@Dan and @Ronald - I'll see if I can get the 2 minute intervals added in.

if I missed anything else, which I'm sure I did, let me know. It's hard to go back and grab all of the posts which didn't get replied to already :)

    thx

    Greg -

I need 1 minute intervals, not 2 minutes.

Actually, 30 seconds might even be more helpful in some cases.

I am trying out the new Inkfrog lister.  There quite are a few things that concern me.  One is that I can no longer access my thumbnail images.  For me that is a deal breaker.  And, where are the fonts?  Even eBay allows its listers to use different fonts.  In all honesty I think the new lister is quite a few steps down from the old one.  Is this permanent?  I am hoping these things will be added at a later date. There are quite a few things that I am having some difficulty with but wanted to address these two issues first.

I have been with Inkfrog for quite a few years and have loved it. I have gone through your changes before, but never felt that I had to give up what you  originally offered until now. I am hoping that I will be able to adjust to the new system and that perhaps the design is just not complete.

    Thank you, Laura.

    I'll try it--as long as it's easy, I'm ok.

I tried to use inkfrog on my iPad and the page wouldn't open. So much for my mobile devices. I'll contact support.

    Thanks again.

@Diane, it was the forums in InkFrog, not eBay. They were SO helpful but Greg took them down because some folks just can't help but be nasty.

Greg, I would like to see you answer the couple of comments and questions Laura made. I don't know what View Item Description html code is, and guess I also think it needs to be incorporated.

@Laura, what is 12 pt padding?

  • Avatar
    Greg

@Margaret - I think you are missing a few things on Open. It does allow you to modify font and it does show your thumbs. Do you want to go over with an account manager? They can show you quickly and get you up and running.  (edited to say that it 'does' allow you to modify font)

@Margorie and @Laura - the 'view item description' code is on the editor. it' the </> icon.

@Laura, so you can just get the lowest level of CrazyLister and you'll keep the template you made?

  • Avatar
    Laura Gatzow

    Marjorie--

Hi! First, the "View Item Description Summary" HTML code is a new feature that eBay is using. If the following HTML code is used before your item description, they will take the first 800 characters in the description field and put it in the small description section of the mobile view. If you don't use the code, it takes bits & pieces of your description & throws it in that area, so it doesn't look or sound very professional. The code is as follows:

    <div vocab="http://schema.org/" typeof="Product">

    <span property="description">

    TYPE YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE

    </span>

    </div>

To use: the best way to set this up is to make a master profile. Within the description box, along the top, are the tools for formatting. There is a button that has a </> on it. Click on that. Copy & paste the above code in there. Type the part of your description that doesn't change in the placeholder text spot. If you want to format that text, make sure you put your cursor back to the very beginning of the text, before the first <, and click on the </> button again to access the WYSIWYG formatting buttons. eBay has rules for what can appear in your first 800 characters, or it throws off the formatting. For example, don't use quotation marks or insert links between the above code. That's why I included the link, and also why I asked if this would be incorporated in IF templates, because if you don't know at least a little HTML, it's rather hard to explain.

Padding is the amount of space between a border and the text you put inside. So, in CrazyLister, there is a editing button for paragraphs called padding. Set that to 12 px (pixels).

As I understand, you can subscribe to the lowest level of CrazyLister & keep as many templates as you create. When they say "managed listings," they are referring to any live eBay listing using a CL template, regardless of where you launch it from (eBay or here on IF Open). And as long as you stay subscribed, you won't get the "Scarlet Letter" (lol) across the listings you use your created templates in.

Hope that helps! If you need more technical help, email me Marjorie: auntodeliasattic@gmail.com

How close is IF Open to getting folders from Classic?

Can't create folders to move my pictures into or create any folders for listings. Is there going to be a "Main Folder"?

    Thank you.

I have been with Ink Frog Classic since the mass exodus from Auctiva six or more years ago.

I have made a new Open acct tonight since Classic will be obsolete soon.
I got a message when trying to sync accts that said my classic acct has been mapped to my Open acct so I suppose that part went well.

    BUT

I have found that OPEN is absolutely useless to me until I can get all of my library and image files from Classic.

Ebay live listings alone just will not work to do my business here because I can't find anything and most importantly,
I have tons of listings and images on file in Classic that are not currently" live" on eBay that
I need here in their organized files order to list them when I want to and to make all the changes Ebay is requiring.
I am in the process of adding UPCS,MPNs, & brands to all of them live and library files.

This won't work here as is so I will have to continue using Classic until transferring is available.
I hope that will be very soon.
I think a lot of us are needing some reassurance on this.

I do understand the need for a new Inkfrog due to all the changes coming up.
Just need it to be user-friendly for us long time Classic customers.

I do want to say ,thank you so much for grandfathering our Classic acct pricing .

Thanks also for all your hard work and the great customer service I have experienced over the years.

Sorry about the long post above. I see others have already been expressing the same thoughts.

    I have a question.

I bulk schedule all of my auction listings from my Classic library ,folder by folder to list once a week ,eight weeks in advance. I am not seeing any way to bulk schedule here on Open. I  only see that you can schedule ahead one listing at a time.

I must be missing something here.

Can someone tell me how to bulk schedule listings here?

    Greg -

I do something similar to what Sheila is doing, that I believe is missing from Open.

In inkFrog, I bulk schedule listings from several Library folders.   When scheduled, they are in my default eBay userid account, which is where all my Library items are.  After scheduling, I go into the Scheduled listings, and use a Global to change userid so that they launch on a different one of my eBay accounts.  But, I want the Library listings to all stay "tied" to the base eBay account.  The Library listings are rotated between accounts, and do not necessarily list each time on the same account, so I do not want to permanently set them ("tie" them) to an account other than the base account.

I've not seen a way to do that with Profiles in Open.

That's been the other stickler preventing me from moving to Open (other than the scheduling time intervals).

I just opened the new Ink Frog Open account. I'm floored number one that the huge message on classic doesn't inform you that you will be charged for TWO different ink frog subscriptions...is what I'm gathering. Why in the world would you offer this New and improved version and then make them two completely different software and prices. I assumed when I opened the new ink frog format that eBay would take that over my classic. WELL.....I've spent numerous hours battling duplicate listings with the OPEN ink frog now and it is money down the drain in my opinion to end them early. I'm very frustrated with the lack of support in a timely manner when i have all these concerns about the new format. I've been told now that classic and open are two separate entities and that if I'm auto relisting in Open format (which  I set up thinking I was doing something right)....was only hurting me because the classic is pulling the auto relisting too. This is a big mess! how can you initiate something and then not have the kinks completely worked out. I'm so frustrated. No phone number to contact a tech either. How do you expect your customers to hang if the support is so wishy washy! and no tutorials are available that I'm aware of.

    @Pat

I, too, am having difficulties with Open, but I'm getting great assistance from support.

You will not be charged double if you "map" to your existing account. Do that by clicking on https://open.inkfrog.com/settings/account/classic/ that's in the message in Classic.

To get to support...at the top of this page click on the tab "Submit a request". I did this yesterday and received an answer very quickly. I'm now am having a dialogue with support about using Open. We have until June (I think) here and on ebay to make our listings mobile compliant. I hope that's enough time for me.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you...I just sent ANOTHER request for help and understanding. I need a running dialogue like you with support but I have not gotten responses back in past two days when I thought that's what I've initiated. I appreciate your help @Diane. Will see if I get better results with this way of submitting.

Okay, I've been poking around and found

    this

    Settings  / Auto Relist

So, you can choose to have Inkfrog Open relist ALL listings, just Auctions, or just BIN listings automatically on ebay when they end . You can choose to relist immediately or choose a day, time .and some other options.

Auto relist would be a total nightmare for auction items! I would never set my auctions to auto relist.I need to schedule them.

If I'm out of stock and the listing relists it creates all kinds of problems. If you have auto relist on for auctions it will reset your quantity to one and relist.

Auto re-list is great on my BIN listings because I control inventory and make adjustments as needed when my stock gets low enough that there is a danger of selling out of stock items.

I may be wrong but  it's looking like it's an all or nothing thing here on Open. Either I have to set the auto-relist feature on all my auctions or relist one by one with no scheduling ahead.

If that is the case. It's a deal breaker.I must be able to manage and schedule auctions from my inkfrog library files .

Please tell me there is a scheduler that I am missing!

    Freaking out a bit here.

@Dan @Sheila -- it's very easy to 'bulk schedule' in Open. You simply go to the 'library', find your items (note, there is a folder option in the library too, see just to the left of the search box, you can filter by folders) -- checkmark your items, choose the bulk options --> list to eBay option.  On the next page, you can choose which eBay id to use and launch/schedule.

    Greg -

Doesn't changing the ID on them (when scheduled) make them "permanently" with that ID?  Yes, you can switch them back, but that's not the point.  The profile switch changes the saved listing and leaves it saved to that ID.

In inkFrog, with Globals, it only changes the scheduled items, not the base (Library/saved) items.

That's what I thought I found when I was trying things out.

Hi, David--I don't know if this helps, but in the listing screen, where you upload the images, after they upload you can just drag & drop to change the order. It sounds like you are are in the template builder, though? I apologize if I am misunderstanding.

I just wanted to let everyone know I got a very informative update from a very special customer service rep. If you are concerned about active content in IF Open template builder templates, you can contact support, and on an case by case basis have active contact turned OFF. In short, I was told they have & are addressing all issues regarding eBay's new rules. Thank you, InkFrog!
