Moving to Open from Classic..

Follow

Hi all, I know that moving is never fun, but sometimes it's for the best. I wanted to write up a quick article including some FAQ's on why and how you should move to inkFrog Open.

First, a bit about inkFrog Open and why it's better. inkFrog Open works much differently than inkFrog Classic. And while it's never easy to move, once you use Open for a few weeks you will learn why it's so much better. The more you use it, the better it is. It's not just us that thinks so, we have tens of thousands of sellers that use it.. and it gets rave reviews!

  • Open offers true mobile friendly templates which comply with eBay's new requirements (including Active Content requirements). This includes the 'tabs' which you can create in your templates! Listings on mobile look fantastic. See screenshots below from an actual sellers listings on an iPhone using our template builder!

  • Open has built in threaded eBay messages (view, reply, manage your eBay messages)
  • Open has library attachments. Every listing you create is attached to a library item where you can manage the listings!
  • Create an incredible amount of filters and saved searches so you can quickly find the items you want
  • Store connectors - You can connect all of your inventory from Shopify, Bigcommerce, and now Amazon directly from inside Open. We keep everything synced for you.
  • True 'Forever listing storage' -- every listing you ever create can be kept inside inkFrog open
  • Templates and descriptions are separated out - and any update to a template, will auto update all of your listings magically for you! (just make sure you manage everything through Open or they will get separated).
  • Open has individual profiles for shipping, returns, and payments!  We've done away with those Global Rules and then having to bulk apply them.  If you link your profiles to your listings, one quit edit to a profile updates every listing linked to that profile!

The above are just a few reasons and I can go on and on, but I'd like to keep this article short if possible.

Next, some FAQs on what Open will do and how you can move

How can I move my account to Open?

While we are nearly complete with our Open converter (from classic to open), you can move without the converter fairly easily. Just create a new account for inkFrog open (if you haven't done so in the past) at http://www.inkfrog.com and Open will automatically import all of your live, sold, and unsold listings from eBay (including images).  Then, connect your classic billing to inkFrog Open by going to this URL (after you login to Open first) - https://open.inkfrog.com/settings/account/classic/ - Connecting your billing will allow you to use both Open and Classic without being charged for both. If you've signed up in the past but forgot how to login, just use your email address and reset your password from the inkFrog open login page.

What about billing (Classic and Open)?

We have great news, you can now connect your Classic billing plan with your inkFrog Open account. Just login to inkFrog Open and then visit this URL: https://open.inkfrog.com/settings/account/classic/ (it will require you to login using your classic username/password) -   We will map your classic billing to the closest, higher plan on Open but you will get to keep your lower, Classic price.  For example, if you are paying $9.95/mo on Classic for 100 listings, you will get our equivalent or higher Open plan but for the same price as you already pay. If you currently get 'unlimited' listings in Classic, you will get our highest Open plan (normally $27/mo) for your lower current, Classic price. And, not only that, but you will be able to use inkFrog Open and inkFrog Classic at the same time, with one single subscription.

What about importing my eBay listings?

That is the great news. inkFrog Open will automatically import all of your live, unsold, and sold listings directly from eBay (including your images). So 90% of all of your inkFrog Classic work automatically gets imported for you. The only thing that doesn't import yet is your inkFrog classic library listings.

What about my Classic templates (prebuilt and custom)?

Here is the deal with templates - eBay's new Active Content and mobile requirements are very strict. None of the old templates, and most likely none of your custom templates meet those requirements. Their new rules require templates to be responsive, which means they change automagically based on screen-size and if on a mobile device. Not only must they be responsive, they also have other limitations which eBay has just recently announced.  Most likely, your templates are not truly responsive, and if they are, they most likely have active content or are limited by at least one of their new standards (unless you've head someone build them recently who knew what they were doing).

Our new template builder in inkFrog Open gives you 100%, true mobile friendly and active content approved templates. These comply with eBay's 2017 requirements. We even offer tabs in our templates which are active content approved!  We recommend creating a template using this new template builder and begin to phase out your old templates (including old, classic templates). Applying an inkFrog Open template in bulk to your listings is very easy to do - just go to your inkFrog open library, checkmark your listings and choose the 'bulk actions-->apply template' option. Before you apply a new template however, make sure you strip out your old templates.  This has to be done manually, unfortunately. Note, you can also use custom templates with Open, just make sure your designer/template builder knows what they are doing with eBay's new standards.

We know that changing templates is a major pain - but after it's done it will be worth it. No pain, no gain as the adage goes. Our new template builder is perfect for today's eBay (clean, simple, professional templates which work great).  Also note, once you 'attach' one of our inkFrog Open templates (and you continue using open to manage your listings), it will be very easy in the future to swap out your templates. We separate your templates from your description - so any template change can be done in a few clicks. In fact, if you update one of your templates, we will auto update your listings for you automatically as well.

What about my inkFrog Classic library listings?

We are not yet done with our library importer/converter. We should have this done shortly. You will be able to import those into your existing Open account once the converter is complete.

I am beside myself! The lister itself is easy enough but it's taking hours to import my images.....and it's importing trash ones. I can't list at all today. Very frustrated

I'm currently paying two membership fees - one for Open and one for "Classic", or Inkfrog 2.0 (the updated version of Inkfrog).

As I hack away at Open, trying to understand how to upload to it using turbolister.csv as I have with "Classic" for years, my workday clock slowly burns out.

The time I need to create awesome content and source amazing products to sell on eBay is being eaten up so that millennials who rarely buy my products can avoid the use of a keyboard.

We need full exchange with our off-line databases in both Open and Classic.  Anything less isn't "Open".

hi Barbara, this issue should be resolved very shortly. We're having a huge amount of sellers who are moving at the same time and it's causing a small bottleneck (fixed for new importers already, will be fixed for your account very soon).

Andrew, the CSV system in Open works very differently and may require some adjustments.. but once you get it down, it's very good and powerful and the ability to manage after the fact is much better.

As long as you are duplicating the Seller Hub functions of eBay, why not add a few features they refuse to work on?

One example would be a duplicate listing catcher.  eBay interprets a duplicate listing as identical in all respects:  same price, for example.  So if you lower prices on a re-list, it's easy to make a mistake an re-list hundreds of identical items.

If the user is able to define the fields that would constitute a duplicate listing (the main one being CUSTOM LABEL) then inkfrog, not eBay, would signal my duplicates and warn me to take action to fix.

Classic inkfrog is already very helpful in catching duplicates in the Launch from Library function, but even that is not infallible, since it doesn't pivot on user-defined fields, but rather a black box set of fields which may or may not do what's needed to prevent service failures in my store.

hi Greg, signup and give it a try.. I don't think you will be disappointed.. The only part that was taking a bit was the importing of data.... You can imagine we have sellers with hundreds of thousands of listings and we are importing their data... It can take a little time for that initial import... but it's really pretty impressive considering the amount of data we import and how our system handles all of the work for you on the move. The other comment was on a CSV feature and the duplicate listing support, which actually if you use inkFrog Open it is much easier to keep track of duplicates because the library listings are 100% tied to your live listings.  Things just work a bit different than classic and there maybe a slight learning curve on a few things, but that is software in general.

The system (inkFrog Open)  works great and is in use by many more sellers than use classic, including being used with our partnership with eBay.  Our reviews of the product are incredible.

I have been using inkfrog for years now and just did the switch to open today. Within an hour I had a few templates made and have been listing items now for the last hour. Just take a look around open and in time you will find things will come easy. The overall working layout is much more productive. The listings look great on mobile devices such as an iphone as well. I have been in retail business since the early 1980s and running online businesses since 1996 and upgrading is just part of the deal. The future of online buying is mobile devices. I am not only a seller on ebay and amazon but also a buyer. I have made many purchases on ebay over the past year and all are made from my iphone.

It is working for me I am getting used to the new way. I would like to see a watermark on the image importer. still not quite clear on the profiles, but I try those some more.

Moving is not easy, but I know, the tech are real help full.

still need to get used to the relisting settings, it is difficult because you don't see the information like before.

also I would like a better choice for timing not at 15 min intervals,

    Thanks!

hi JB, we don't have the classic 'library' importer done yet (should be done very soon).  But everything else from eBay will import (live, unsold, sold).

Would be nice if our globals could be migrated to the new profile info, but bet that's not possible.

Also, I need to know what you mean by stripping the old templates?

    Allan W Grusie

I am attempting this again (tried in the spring but went back to classic).

OK - so my live listings are stuck on 'refresh"... 4700 active listings should take how long?

Also, as the last member asked, what is meant by "stripping out the old templates" - quick lesson? Sure hope this is something that can be done in bulk! How do you add the new templates?

Well I started open and it has two to three of my listings.  There is no way I can go through the normal 800 plus listings I have to get rid of duplicates.  How can I achieve this other than cancelling Open

My Pictures are not Transfering to the correct pixel size.

Will this self correct or will I have to elarge all my pictures!

Why are everything in my library in Open now showing "Live" status even when that item in Classic has a 0 qty inventory or was either sold or not even listed on ebay?

  • Avatar
    Ping Ching KO

This Open is suck, all the original name's of my image is changed. I have over 8000s photos and you are asking me to change one by one?
And the folders I created in classic now are all gone. How about my customs tempalte, much more prettier than yours are all gone too.

It has been importing my photos for nearly 10 HOURS now! I am disgusted. I Want my classic back. I cannot believe this! Oh....and it's not uploading my RECENT photos - it's uploading the ones in trash

  • Avatar
    Barbara M Lemonakis

I really hate this! I cannot even make files to put trash in .

I have to start over on ALL my listings. I am "small time" on here and I get it but really? All I am doing is supplementing retirement with SMALL sales. Obviously classic worked well for me.

My images are all NAMED so I can locate my product. ( I sell photographs) They are now NUMBERED and I will not be able to locate my product.  I have some 6000 images that I am dealing with and without the names I will not be able to find them.  Can I just pay more money and stay with Classic?  It did EVERYTHING I needed.

Absolutely BRUTAL!!!! Classic worked just fine for me. 20% imported - 6 hours so far. Are you f'ing kidding!! Plus the comments I read about the photos... plus the listing process appears more cumbersome - no drag & drop. Oh yeah - library listings? 20,000 of those - I dip into them all the time for research I have previously completed. Let's do the math - 4700 actives, only 20% updated in 5 hours. Only another 20 hours to go. Can hardly wait for the 20,00 library items - at that pace it will only take 106 hours!!!!!

I have been a happy inkfrog customer for the most part since '04. But for once I am ticked off. How about Inkfrog getting their s**t together, get this friggin thing working right, take off that stupid puke colored "Move to inkFrog Open" rubbish off my screen and let me know when it is really ready, rather than this half hearted attempt to convert us.

    Arghhh!!!

Barbara and Allan, can you post your eBay id's so I can take a look at your accounts? Those maybe stuck from before a fix we implemented.. I want to take a look.

@Ping Ching KO - we don't have our custom template importer completed yet (it will be done shortly and you can then transfer them over), however, please note about my previous post that most templates customers have do NOT meet eBay's new requirements and that means you are losing sales and will potentially be blocked in the future!

@Susan - if you use open continuously and get rid of those duplicates you have now, that will not happen.. that happens because it sounds like you had an open account for a while now and were using another service to post etc.

@Alex - Open keeps all of your library items attached to the library.. the inventory works differently and it will not sync with classic's inventory system (which frankly did not work well at all). It will take learning curve.

@james, our inkFrog Classic 'importer' is not completed yet which will transfer images and their names (as well as library items, custom templates etc.). The current importer you are using is importing from your eBay items (which are numbered). The import system doesn't know you have names on your classic account (it's not a classic importer).

    My id is cdbasement.

Also - will images be as slow to move over?

And from my first inquiry: "Also, as the last member asked, what is meant by "stripping out the old templates" - quick lesson? Sure hope this is something that can be done in bulk! How do you add the new templates?"

I just completed the process of converting my store from US to Canadian $$ sales - by cancelling and relisting every item as there was no bulk fix - 4 months lost, lots of sales lost - so you can see my apprehension with potentially another disruption to business!

I seem to be one of the few not complaining (yet) so please answer the question I asked. What does stripping the old templates mean? I had templates professionally made for me, and realize I will need to begin using new ones, but I need to understand the process. Thank you

Just signed up today. It's importing my images now from Classic. Seems to be stuck on 903 imported images for the past 2 hours. Plus it's importing pictures that I deleted from my trash-so in classic they aren't even visible in my trash because they're deleted. Is this normal?
    Thank you

I've created an InkFrog Open account, but will probably wait to use it until all of my folders are transferred to Open.

I've been using InkFrog since it was Sparedollar early early on and there have been few changes--if there has been, I just ignored them-- and continued with classic. So I'll see.

I have a tab open to Classic which I will continue to use and a tab open for Open. It appears this page can only be accessed from the yellow box announcing Open on the Classic site.

Thank you, Greg and your staff for your good work.

Yes Diane!!!! I can't remember if I started when Sparedollar but I've been her for years. Things to change & although we may not like change, inkfrog has to change withe ebays changes. Greg & staff work real hard & I appreciate them.
